Big Day Out!

Well we just about got away with
it on Saturday - after some heavy
showers it all turned out well from
3.30PM onwards and with a serious
dose of village spirit (not to mention
brollies and towels) a good time was
had by all. Thanks to all who helped/contributed/attended etc
and made it such an enjoyable afternoon.

Special thanks to Doug for yet again doing
such a grand job with the music.

Highlight of the day has to be brave
Sir Nigel (and his trusty metal detector)
for finding Gerda's lost wedding ring
on the common - one to go down in the
history books there.

If anyone's got any photos from the day,
let me know and we can put them up here.

Big Day Out - Village Picnic

Following the success of the Jubilee party last year, we are organising another event on the common this year - same principal, just as much fun - though without the Union Jack bunting and national anthem.

Plans are coming along for our "Big Day Out" on Saturday 15 June - from 1.00PM to 7.00PM

We'll be distributing leaflets in the next week or two but the basic plans are for a village picnic on the common from 1.00PM plus
  • Bouncy castle all afternoon
  • Various game after the picnic - softball/rounders, tug-of-war, golf chipping etc
  • The legendary wheelbarrow racing
  • Music
  • Raffle
If anyone else wants to get involved or has any other ideas please get in touch - drop me an email or call me on 07879 841474 / 01494 882221

Guess How Many Eggs In The Jar

At the Easter Egg hunt we are having a little " Guess How many Eggs In The Jar" competition so come along, brave the elements and even if you have grown out of hunting for eggs, come along for a cup of tea and a cake.

If you can't make it, send us a message anyway with you guess and see if you can win a jar of Easter eggs.

Hope to see you there on Monday.

Happy Easter.

UPDATE - Just to say the winner was Max - and there were 138 eggs in total

Easter Egg Hunt

Inspired by that brief moment of sunshine yesterday, we are going to start planning the Easter Egg Hunt on The Common - hopefully we'll fare better than last year when we had to be postpone for a week.

So any offers of help, cakes etc gratefully appreciated as ever . . .

Chiltern 3 Peaks

A group of us recently did the Chilterns 3 Peaks Challenge - an 18 mile walk along The Ridgeway taking in Whiteleaf Cross, Coombe Hill and ending at Ivinghoe Beacon.

Many thanks to those who sponsored us - it was all in aid of Iain Rennie - as a group we raised about £600 and the whole event raised about £75,000.

A good time was had by all - a few sore legs on Monday but nothing more serious than that; if anyone fancies it next year let me know.

What A Great Day!

Well despite the dreadful weather most of the weekend, we got away with it; our Jubilee picnic went really well and all the feedback we have had has been very positive. It was brilliant to see so many people come out - general opinion is that we had well over 200 people in all.

Special mention must go to Keith, George and Henry for their efforts with the Balloon Race - they did 400 balloons in the end - and after all the expenses prizes will be £200 (£100 / £60 / £40) - watch this space.

Also many thanks to Sue Griffin for all her efforts with the food and her splendid Jubilee cake.

Jubilee Picnic

Just a brief note say that plans are coming along well for the Wheeler End Jubilee Picnic on Monday 4 June – between 1.00PM and 5.00PM

We’ll be dropping leaflets through people’s doors this week but the basic plans are as Picnic from 1.00PM on the common
  • Bouncy Castle all afternoon
  • Various games after the picnic – softball/rounders, tug-of-war, golf chipping, garden Jenga etc
  • Wheelbarrow racing
  • Prizes for best crown/tiara
  • Tea and cakes at 4.00PM

If anyone else wants to get involved or has any further ideas for the day itself, please drop me an email or give me a call on 07879 841474

We have had a generous contribution of £150 from the Parish Council so this will fund the basic costs of the day and mean we don’t need to charge for the Bouncy Castle – we’ll be open to donations on the day towards the costs of this and future events
